Greece’s power network operator, DEDDIE of HEDNO, on Wednesday announced a landmark deal to finally acquire 2.76 million “smart” electricity meters along with a meter data management system.
The provider, officially called the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator, signed a contract with a consortium of companies that include Iskraemeco d.d., Oracle France SAS, Itron Spain SLU – ZIV Aplicaciones y Tecnologia S.L., Protasis AE – Sagemcom Energy and Telecom SAS.
The goal is to replace Greece’s millions of analogue electromechanical meters by 2030, which would fulfil a long-standing oversight in the country’s grid, and alleviate the specter of consumers stealing electricity from power lines, single connections in buildings etc.
