In a post on his social media account marking the occasion of today’s, Thursday 15, International Families Day, Greek Defense Minister, Nikos Dendias emphasized the fundamental role of family in Greek society.
“Family is the cornerstone of Greek society. Our highest priority is the tangible support of the military family and the improvement of its living conditions,” he stressed.
The minister went on to reference the “Agenda 2030,” explaining that every member of the Armed Forces who is transferred to a different region of the country will receive the key to a home for themselves and their family.
Dendias accompanied his post with a card outlining details of 1,059 housing units that are set to be delivered by 2026 to members of the Armed Forces, teachers, and doctors in the Aegean and Thrace regions.
This initiative aligns with broader efforts announced last March to enhance living standards for military personnel. Dendias had introduced salary increases ranging from 13% to 20%, depending on rank and responsibilities, which took effect on April 1.
The minister highlighted that the total budget for these raises amounts to 268 million euros, declaring, “This is the least we can do to recognize the contribution of our personnel.”
Outlining the government’s long-term vision through the “Agenda 2030,” Dendias revealed plans for the construction of 4,000 housing units for Armed Forces staff and their families stationed in remote areas of Greece. The project aims to deliver 1,000 new homes each year, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting those who serve.
