The Greek Cabinet convenes today under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the wake of recent developments surrounding the farming financial subsidied scandal at OPEKEPE, the Greek Payment Authority of EU Aid Schemes. The meeting comes a day after the government’s decision to abolish the agency and transfer its payment functions to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).
The Cabinet session will take place at the Maximos Mansion at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
The eight topics on the agenda are as follows:
- A presentation by Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos on new legislative initiatives to reform market supervision and consumer protection.
- A presentation by Minister of Migration and Asylum Makis Voridis on a draft bill reforming the legal framework and procedures for third-country nationals’ returns.
- A joint presentation by Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis and Minister of Rural Development and Food Kostas Tsiaras on the government’s plan to transform OPEKEPE by integrating it into AADE.
- A presentation by Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis and Deputy Minister of Education, Religion, and Sports Giannis Vroutsis on various legislative initiatives.
- A presentation by Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou on the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence.
- A briefing by Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis on the approval of the 2024 annual report of the Public Debt Management Agency.
- A briefing by Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Gerapetritis on the creation and operation of an Interministerial Committee for the control of foreign direct investment for security or public order reasons.
- A briefing by Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Domna Michailidou on the establishment of a Government Committee for Housing Policy.
