Politico on Tuesday cited an explosive French report alleging that the Muslim Brotherhood, designated as a terrorist organization in the European Union, has attempted to influence the Union’s institutions under the guise of combatting “Islamophobia”.
The report, as cited by Politico in an article bylined by Clea Caulcutt, Victor Goury-Laffont and Sarah Paillou, cite “significant lobbying activities” by the Sunni Muslim extremist group originally founded in Egypt.
The news outlet claims it has seen the still unpublished French report, which among others lobbied EU policymakers and MEPs in Brussels to make blasphemy illegal and to attempt to weaken France’s enshrined Laïcité concept (secularism) which mandates separation of religion and the state – and protects both freedom of religion and freedom from religion.
According to Politico, “…the version of the report seen by POLITICO alleges that the Muslim Brotherhood, which was founded more than 100 years ago in Egypt with the aim of creating a state ruled by Islamic law, is pushing its agenda via several pan-European organizations that share the group’s ideology and have received money from Qatar and Kuwait, states known to fund both Muslim and Islamist causes overseas.”
