A well-organized counterfeit goods trafficking ring was dismantled on the iconic island of Mykonos, Greece, following a major police operation, authorities announced.

The criminal network had been targeting unsuspecting tourists, selling fake branded items at inflated prices. Sunglasses and hats were going for as little as 20 euros, while handbags fetched up to 100 euros. According to police estimates, the operation generated illegal profits exceeding 50,000 euros.

Seven individuals were arrested, and authorities confiscated a total of 1,671 counterfeit products, along with cash and vehicles linked to the ring.

Police Operation Weeks in the Making

The Mykonos police had been planning the operation for days, closely monitoring specific accommodations in the areas of Klouvas, Kalafatis, and Ano Mera. The suspects were staying there and using the properties as storage spaces packed with imitation designer bags, sunglasses, and other accessories.

The first four suspects were apprehended at Paraga Beach as they were preparing to start selling the fake merchandise. Later that same day, three more accomplices were located and arrested.

A search of the suspects’ residences uncovered 423 handbags, 637 hats, 570 pairs of sunglasses, various belts, and a significant amount of cash: 2,175 euros, 572 dollars in U.S. currency, and 20 Canadian dollars.
