A key section of the Patras–Pyrgos motorway, spanning the Western Peloponnese, is set to open to traffic by the end of July, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Dimas announced this week following an on-site inspection.

The nearly completed 65km segment runs from Pyrgos north to Alissos and marks a significant milestone in the long-awaited project.

“We are now very close to completing an important project in Western Greece. By the end of July, the first 65km of the motorway will be delivered to traffic, starting from Pyrgos and heading north to Alissos. The remaining 10km to Patras will be completed and opened by the end of November,” said Dimas.

In addition to the main motorway, side projects are also underway, including a supporting road network and 14 major flood control projects along the Patras–Pyrgos route. These works, the minister said, are aimed at enhancing the motorway’s resilience to the impacts of climate change.

Once complete, the Patras–Pyrgos motorway will span 75km. Combined with the Olympia Odos, which links Athens to Patras, it will form the third-longest motorway in Greece, with a total length of 277km.
