An emergency was declared by Greek authorities on Sunday afternoon, June 16, following reports of a helicopter crash in the marine area of Vouliagmeni, a coastal suburb south of Athens.
According to To Vima, the helicopter was preparing to land on a private yacht when the incident occurred.
Initial reports indicate that the aircraft was carrying four American tourists and a Greek pilot.
The incident reportedly took place at the helipad of the Astir Palace Resort in Vouliagmeni. During takeoff, the pilot detected a mechanical malfunction and immediately instructed the passengers to jump from the helicopter for their safety.
The pilot remained onboard as the aircraft plunged into the sea.
According to the Ministry of Shipping, all five individuals onboard have been rescued and are in good health.
