First responders rushed to locations in two areas of central Greece in the regional units of Phthiotis and Volos after fires broke out on Wednesday, with another blaze reported on the island of Evia off the coast of eastern Attica.

According to the Lamia fire department, five fire engines were dispatched to an inaccessible area near Domokos in the regional unit of Phthiotis, central Greece, where a fire was burning dry, low vegetation. Two PLZ firefighting aircraft took off to assist in the efforts. Reports say the blaze has been contained by the firefighting units operating.

Meanwhile, a large fire was also burning near the town of Almyros, in the Volos regional unit in central Greece. The blaze is burning a large reed land area.

A wildfire broke out earlier in Eretria, in the region of Evia. The blaze is currently burning through dry grass and olive trees. According to initial reports from local media outlet Evima, the front has advanced dangerously close to residential areas, raising alarm among residents and prompting the deployment of significant firefighting forces.

Authorities have issued a warning via the 112 emergency alert system, urging those in the vicinity to remain on standby and follow official instructions closely.
