A wildfire broke out on Friday afternoon, July 4, in the area of Agios Dimitrios in Koropi, a town located southeast of Athens, prompting urgent evacuation orders for nearby residential settlements.

The blaze is burning through low vegetation but is dangerously close to homes, raising concerns among local authorities and residents. An emergency alert was issued through the 112 European emergency number, instructing residents in two settlements to evacuate as a precaution.

According to the Hellenic Fire Service, a large firefighting operation is currently underway. A total of 75 firefighters have been deployed, supported by 5 ground teams, 25 fire engines, and 6 aerial units, including 2 aircraft and 4 helicopters.

The scale of the response highlights the fire’s potential threat to both residential areas and surrounding land. Authorities remain on high alert, and residents are advised to follow evacuation instructions and remain updated through official channels.
