The Municipality of Preveza, situated in north-western Greece, is poised to step into the hospitality sector with an ambitious tourism development project at the coastal site of “Poros–Diavati.” Approved on Monday, June 2, by the Interministerial Committee for Strategic Investments, under the chairmanship of Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, the 60-million-euro public investment marks a strategic shift for the region.

Backed by Enterprise Greece, which will oversee the project’s preparation and tender process, the plan aims to attract private investors through an international bidding procedure. According to the project’s master plan, the development will span over 200 hectares and take shape as a sustainable, multi-use tourism complex.

Designed to elevate Preveza’s profile as a rising destination for both domestic and international travelers, the project includes a 91-room hotel, 12 luxury villas with private pools, and glamping units and bungalows along the southern edge. A thalassotherapy and wellness center, a conference center, seaside restaurants, and shops offering local products will complement the resort infrastructure.

Efforts to advance the tourism project in Preveza began as early as December 2021, when Mayor Nikos Georgakos signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Secretary General for International Economic Affairs and Extroversion at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President of Enterprise Greece.

The agreement marked the start of a strategic collaboration aimed at preparing the investment—titled “5-Star Hotel at Monolithi Preveza: Long Beach Preveza”—for inclusion in the Interministerial Committee for Strategic Investments. The goal was to secure its classification as a strategic investment, paving the way for streamlined licensing and accelerated development.

Mayor Nikos Georgakos emphasized that Preveza holds untapped potential, with its cultural, archaeological, and environmental assets forming a solid foundation for thoughtful, large-scale development.
