The European Commission has launched a formal investigation into four major adult websites—Pornhub, Stripchat, XNXX, and XVideos—amid growing concerns that the platforms are failing to adequately protect minors online.
The probes fall under the scope of the Digital Services Act (DSA), the new EU regulation that governs how tech companies must monitor and moderate online content to ensure the safety of European users.
“The online space must be a safe environment for children to learn and connect,” said EU Commissioner for Digital Policy, Henna Virkkunen. “Our priority is to protect minors and ensure they can navigate the internet safely.”
Virkkunen emphasized that the European Commission, in cooperation with national authorities across EU member states, is committed to addressing any potentially harmful content aimed at or accessible by young people.
The outcome of the investigations could lead to significant regulatory actions if the platforms are found to be in breach of the DSA’s strict child protection and content moderation standards.
